Thanks to StageDoorDish, I was alerted that this official trailer has been released for Joss Whedon’s film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing!  Her article (at the link above) states that she is unsure what to make of the film based on the trailer and is wary of Whedon’s prowess with Shakespearian text.  I posted the following response:  ”I am a fan of all things Joss Whedon so I am not the most impartial judge, but I think that this looks fantastic, from the trailer.  Whedon is known for hosting readings of Shakespearian plays at his home and this film was a passion project for him in which he brought together a number of the people he has enjoyed working with in the past for starring roles and cameo performances.  For his followers, this semi-wide release feels like it has been a long time coming.  Word of the film’s existence spread way back in April while Joss was doing press tours for The Avengers and fans are well aware that the only reason we will get a chance to see this at all is due to the enormous success of that movie.  Based on the trailer, it seems as though Whedon has made the language and mannerisms seem very relevant and contemporary.  This approach is always a challenge and it does not always work in a directors favor but I still applaud people for making the attempt and I think that in this case it will be wonderful!”

Urban Dictionary Definition of Theater/Theatre Geek

imatheatergeek:

I admit that I was being a little bit vain this morning and decided to google myself and my website to see how far down I had to scroll before I hit a link that was actually me when I came across this…

Here are some highlights that I found especially entertaining:

#3 - A theatre geek is a person who is in theatre, knows everything about theatre, and is one of the most awesome kinds of people to live.

#4 - A theatre geek is a person who acts and sings everywhere they go, because any sentence reminds them of a musical.

#5 - 1) A proud few who dwell in the bowels of their high school auditorium and survive off of stale bagels and way too many tacos from Jack in the Box.     2) People who realize the correct spelling of the word “theatre when referring to the Theatrical arts.  i.e. “After Elle cussed out the newspaper editor for misspelling “theatre” everyone believes her when she says she is a Theatre Geek!”

I enjoy the definitions in number 5 the most even though I don’t think that Jack in the Box exists in NYC and I actually stand by the “er” spelling of Theater along with the New York Times and TheaterMania.

I came across this gem while explaining to a coworker who Wallace Shawn was and why I was so excited about the upcoming productions of his plays at The Public.

I just found out that NY City Center is going to be doing a production of It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman!  as part of their Encores! series this spring.  I have grown up hearing about how hilarious this show was and I am looking forward to finally seeing it for myself!
